I sometimes discover new and/or better ways of drawing with colored pencils.  I would like to share my discoveries here.

Erasing

When erasing colored pencil there are so many different types of erasers I like to use.

When erasing a specific area, even the smallest eraser can end up erasing areas that I don't want to disturb.  For small, specific areas I like to use a stainless steel drafting eraser shield.  They are just a few dollars at the craft store and I use my quite often.

You can place the eraser shield over the area on your drawing and find just the right angle to erase a very specific area.  There are so many shapes and sizes you will be sure to find just the right shape for your troubled spot.  Once you have the template over the area just right, you can really erase with pressure and clean up the problem area.

Organizing

*For organizing my colored pencils I purchased a scrapbooking carousel made by Making Memories.

I read a tip from a fellow colored pencil artist where they recommended separating your colored pencils by color.  What a great idea!

I like this carousel organizer because I can spin it around and find just the right color.

Once I began to separate the colors, I found that they really could be separated even more. So I cut pieces of foam core board to make dividers. So my blues are now divided into three shades of blue. There are the blue-greens (which happen to be just across the boarder from the green-blues in the green section), then the regular blues and light blues, then behind that are the blue/purples(which are directly across from the reds). So on and so forth with the rest of the colors.

I also love the little drawers at the bottom of each section. Here I will keep the little stub pencils that seem to get lost in the bottom of any container.
